What is the purpose of this qualification?
The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award in Retail Knowledge qualifications are for learners who work in, or who want to gain employment in, the retail sector . This qualification give learners the opportunity to:
- Develop and demonstrate the retail sector-related knowledge to underpin competence in a job role. This includes the principles and practices behind the core tasks and responsibilities related to the job as well as wider work-related knowledge such as customer services, sales, quality and stock control, payment handling, buying, store management, people management
- Prepare for employment in a specific specialist area such as beauty retailing, garden retail, newspapers and grocery and online/multi-channel retailing
- Develop personal growth, development and engagement in learning through the development of personal, learning and thinking skills (PLTS)
- Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 2 or level 3 qualification
- Progress to employment.
What does this qualification cover?
All the content of the qualification relates directly to the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to support students in progressing to further study in the retail sector.
Students will need to complete two credit value from Group A enabling them to develop an understanding of the business of retail, from customer service, to the retail selling process and stock control to health and safety and the contribution of individuals and teams contribute to business effectiveness in retail. The remaining 7 credits will be selected from optional units (Group B and Group C).
The choice of units available enables the precise nature of the qualification to be tailored to meet the interests and progression aspirations of individual groups of students.
How is this qualification assessed?
This qualification is assessed through internal assessment by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods (written assignments, practical tasks, portfolio of evidence, centre devised assessments etc) or Pearson-devised assessment (onscreen testing).
Who could take this qualification?
This qualification is for all learners aged 16-18 and 19+ who are capable of reaching the required standards. Learners do not need any prior qualifications, knowledge or experience before starting the qualification. The Award is usually undertaken by learners who volunteer in the retail sector or by those in a part time or a temporary role.
What could this qualification lead to?
Learners could progress on to a Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate/Diploma in Retail Knowledge. There is also the possibility of progressing onto the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Award/Certificate in Retail Knowledge.
